KTA HISTORY

Formally known as Maroochydore Touch, Kawana Touch was established in 1999 following a transition from Wises Road, Maroochydore to the Council-owned Kawana Sports Eastern Precinct at Kawana (rugby league fields). With the development of the Kawana Sports Western Precinct finalised in 2006, Kawana Touch jumped across Kawana Way, to where we remain today.

Maroochydore Touch and Kawana Touch have a proud 30-year history with players in our competition reaching the highest level of the game.

Locals superstars such as Peta Rogerson, Justin Otto, Chris Farrow and Troy Clark (and more) continue to be mainstay players at Kawana and are now focused on fostering the next generation.

With a new Committee elected in mid-2023, Kawana Touch has big plans to sustainably grow participation and be the Sunshine Coast’s premier touch competition. They have set out to deliver well-executed competitions, engage our touch community, listen and make good decisions that cater for, motivate and develop our members.

We are already seeing the results of this new direction. In 2023, Kawana Touch competed at the Queensland State Cup with a record 6 teams, 3 of which made a grand final and one team – the Women’s 40s – taking out the championship.

In 2024, Kawana Touch entered 6 teams in the Queensland Junior State Cup for boys and girls in under 12s, 14s and 16s age divisions. For our first trip away together, our teams worked hard on the field, built great team culture and showed excellent sportsmanship that made us all incredibly proud.

Kawana entered 8 senior teams to the 2024 Queensland State Cup. Despite it being a wet and wild event Kawana made 4 semi finals and 2 grand finals, with the Mixed 30s taking out the Championship.
